Acupuncture and Infertility; Natural Treatments

Many women are interested in pursuing more natural treatments for infertility problems. Acupuncture and infertility conditions are more and more being heard uttered together as presenting an option for a potentially devastating condition. Acupuncture uses a series of treatments to intervene in cases of infertility.

Most of these treatments are very low-risk for most individuals and do not have contraindications with other types of medical treatments. More and more, Western medical practitioners are willing to give acupuncture serious consideration as a legitimate form of intervention. A series of studies have shown that there are some potentially very positive results.

One must consider the cause of their infertility before they consider acupuncture and infertility conditions as treatment and condition. This procedure works well for those infertility issues that arise from imbalances in the body. Used in conjunction with its traditional herbal component, for instance, acupuncture has been used to treat conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and luteal phase defect.

The treatment is also used following pregnancy to help reduce the risk of miscarriage, one of the leading types of fertility conditions seen at present. There are some conditions for which this practice is not recommended, however.

Acupuncture and infertility treatments are generally complimentary as long as it’s not a physical defect that is causing the infertility issue. For instance, while acupuncture can be used to relax tubes that are in spasm, it cannot remove an obstruction from a tube. Working together, acupuncturists and doctors can oftentimes find where acupuncture will be of assistance and avoid treatments which will have no end benefit for the patient.

There are some fertility conditions which will require a surgical intervention. While acupuncture cannot address the base issue in these cases, it may provide relief before and after the surgery, particularly for pain.

There are certain risks when using acupuncture and infertility treatments of other types, though these are minimal at best. Most individuals are completely tolerant of acupuncture treatment and, though one must always consult their doctor beforehand, there are few reasons to have any concern about pursuing acupuncture treatments. While one is pregnant, acupuncturists must avoid any points located near the lower abdomen.

There are also a series of points which are to be avoided but which are located in other areas of the body. A well-trained acupuncturist will be aware of this though one should make certain that their doctor is aware of their pursuit of this treatment.

Acupuncture and infertility issues that are resistant to other treatments and interventions are becoming more recognized as representing a potential treatment for a very life-impacting condition. Depending upon where one lives, acupuncturists may or may not be licensed.

Most states do require a license. Make certain that any acupuncturist that one visits is licensed and insured and that they’re aware of one’s medical history. If possible, having one’s acupuncturist consult with one’s doctor is the best possible scenario. Both professionals working together may obtain very impressive results for their patient.
